The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in the UK has issued a notice to comprehensively tighten the Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) standards for methidathion. This decision is based on considerations of human health risks, and the new standards will be officially implemented from May 5, 2025.
It is understood that methidathion is no longer approved as an active substance in the UK, and no plant protection products have been authorized. HSE first proposed to tighten the residue limit of this substance on July 8, 2024, intending to lower all MRLs to the quantitative limit. This proposal was officially adopted on November 5, 2024, after completing the World Trade Organization notification process.
Considering the potential impact of this adjustment on international trade and the food industry, regulatory authorities have granted a six-month transition period. The current residue limit standards will continue until May 4, 2025, and the new standards will take effect the next day.
